  1. Under the new contract, Unit A teaching faculty are under a 10 month contract. What does this mean?

Teaching faculty who are under a 10 month contract teach 2 ½ trimesters. This means that they teach two 15 week trimesters and 1 ½ trimester or two 15 week trimesters and one Block 2 or Block 3. The Block 2 or Block 3 courses can be in any trimester with the agreement of the chair. NO ONE can be made to teach involuntarily over 3 trimesters.

If you agree to teach over three full trimesters, all you can receive in compensation is four days of vacation days for each month above the 10 months with a maximum of 8 days. The 48 days maximum of accumulated vacation is still in effect.

A further note, most people are spreading their 10 pay over 12 months. Even if you are paid over 12 months, your contract is for only 10 months. The other two months are not vacation, you are not under contract to the university, and therefore you CAN NOT be made to come in under any circumstances without your cooperation. That time is your time.

  2. Do I get vacation anymore?

No, you do not receive vacation days anymore unless you work more than 10 months. But that has to be voluntary.
  3. Do I have to take my two months off during the Summer?
No, the 10 month contract means you have to teach 2 full trimester blocks and ½ trimester block. It does not specify when you have to take it. However, your choice must be made in conjunction with the chair based on Program need.
